Email sent to: denise @ xlintellect.com.au

Note: we are not responsible if a student decides not to turn up to lessons.

You will be advised in advance if any changes are required. Students do not incur a cancellation fee if the tutor has to cancel the lesson. We will, however, endeavour to provide a make-up time for a lesson in the same week if possible.

Additional Lesson requests or temporary change of time.

If you require additional lessons or need to make a change (temporary) you must make the request at least a week in advance. As a courtesy, we will ask the other permanent students if they are able to make a temporary change to accommodate you.

Late requests are extremely hard to accommodate.

Lesson Etiquette

Students should have appropriate writing material – pen and paper and or a laptop for notetaking. These will not be supplied by us.

Students should ensure all relevant materials relating to topics they wish to discuss are at hand, i.e. texts, assessments, marked essays and lists of questions that require clarification or further evaluation.

Students should ensure that they prepare work in advance of when it is due – NOT LAST MINUTE. Deadlines posted by students (or parents) are not accepted.

Questions should be raised at the beginning of class – not while they are packing up at the end of the lesson.

Students with flu or infection should cancel their in-person lesson and re-schedule or we can accommodate an online lesson. Again, this requires advance notice, or a cancellation fee will apply.

Students should be considerate and ensure that deodorant is applied prior to arrival at our premises.

Copyright Material in Class

All notes taken in tutorials are copyright material. Such analysis is to be used to benefit the student and improve their understanding of English and the course/ rubric.

Do not share notes taken down in tutorials or discussion of analyses of texts with their friends, fellow classmates or teachers (unless within essays submitted for assessment or examination).

Exemplar essays (service temporarily unavailable), also known as model essays, are available online for a small fee from www.notesplus.com.au and will not be handed out to students in class.

Reviews, Corrections and Mark-up Outside of Lesson

Written work submission for review and correction:

Students wishing to submit written work for review and correction OUTSIDE THE LESSON may do so, but this will incur an incremental fee. This is also applicable to any other out of lesson assistance or work requests. Payment is due upon receipt of invoice. This will be invoiced to parents or guardians.

Charges are incremental: Minimum 10 minutes (or part thereof is a flat fee) and increases in 5 minute increments thereafter.

Fees are charged in the increments above based on the student’s tuition fee and the duration it takes to correct/markup the work (time is rounded up to nearest increment).

Note: We reserve the right to waive or reduce these fees at our discretion.

Written work is submitted and shared as a Google Doc via denise @ xlintellect.com.au

Students should attempt to finalise all their edits before submission.

The work should be proof-read by the student; ensuring that sentences and paragraphs are complete.

Ensure that the work is spell checked using English (Australian) or English (UK) ONLY (NOT English U.S.)

Using a thesaurus – this is a simple tool but often students will not check the context in which they use the word. Students should refrain from trying to make their essays more ‘sophisticated’ by believing that synonym substitution will suffice.

Students are advised that a minimum of 48 hours should be factored to receive a reply with the corrections and review notes. This is particularly relevant if a submission has a specific due date.

Students submitting written work last minute (under 48 hours prior to it being due at school) will still be charged for the review and corrections even if the reply comes after the due date of their task.

Note 1: Multiple submissions of the same work will incur multiple fees.

Note 2: An exception will be made for the submission of Major Works in relation to multiple edits.

Note 3: Essays for History, Legal Studies, Art, Drama, Business Studies or other subjects will not be corrected.

Note 4: Do not submit written work simply for the tutor to cut down the word length (an exception is made for oral presentations).

Note 5: Submissions are not guaranteed to be reviewed/corrected and returned.

For Parents and Guardians

We are happy to chat with parents about a student’s progress. This will be considered as a consultation. An appointment will need to be made.

We are happy to advise parents of a student’s individual needs and how they can facilitate their child’s learning. However, if parents feel that they wish something specific to be addressed concerning their child’s work, please raise this with the tutor.

Parents may come inside and sit in the living room whilst their child is being tutored. However, as in a classroom environment, they will not be permitted to sit in on lessons. It is expected that the student will take their own notes and develop study skills. If a student does not fulfill the requirements of tutoring sessions, this will be made known to parents – tutoring can only benefit students when they desire it to benefit themselves.
